6 Wonder Ingredients to Lighten Dark Circles

Dark circles can seriously put a dampener on one’s entire look and even affect confidence in a big way. There’s a variety of reasons why dark circles appear, these could be lack of sleep, excessive stress and too much intake of caffeinated products or even hereditary causes! And while you may not be able to wipe them off completely, there are simply kitchen ingredients that work to lighten dark circles.

Here are a few effective ingredients:

  • Remedy 1: Cucumber

Why? Cucumber possesses skin lightening agents that when applied on the affected area helps reduce dark circles. This ‘cool’ ingredient is also one of the best astringents that aids those dark under eyes too.

How? Cut a cucumber into thick slices and leave it in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes. Apply a slice each on the affected areas for 10 to 15 minutes. Wash it off with normal water to soothe the skin.

  • Remedy 2: Turmeric

Why? This super ingredient is a favourite when it comes to wounds and inflammations in India. Turmeric holds important antioxidant and anti-inflammatory factors that help to clear the dark circles.

How? Mix two teaspoons of turmeric with 2-3 tablespoons of pineapple juice to make a paste and apply it to the affected areas. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Gently take it off with a damp, soft cloth.

  • Remedy 3: Raw Potato

Why? Potatoes posses bleaching agents that help lighten the dark circles. These also help eliminate puffiness around the eyes.

How? Dip cotton balls in potato juice and apply it to the dark circles. Leave it on for 15 minutes. Wash it off with cold water and follow it up by applying a gentle moisturiser on the skin.

  • Remedy 4: Almond Oil

Why? A wonderfully nourishing oil, almond oil is also gentle on the skin. This oil contains Vitamin E and K which help eliminate the darkness and moisturises those bags underneath.

How? Take a few drops of almond oil and massage the skin around the eyes gently. Leave it overnight and wash it off the next morning with cold water, followed by a cleansing routine to rid the oiliness.

  • Remedy 5: Rose Water

Why? Rose water is excellent for skin care because it offers multiple benefits. It instantly freshens up the skin and when used on the eyes, gives exhausted eyes a revived look.

How? Soak cotton balls in rose water for 7-10 minutes. Lie down and put these over your eyes leaving it on for about 15-20 minutes. Splash your face with cool water later.

  • Remedy 6: Lemon Juice

Why? This ingredient from the citrus family consists of a high amount of Vitamin C and is packed with skin lightening properties, promising to give beneficial results.

How? Take a few drops of lemon juice and apply it only on the dark circles. Leave it for 10 minutes and wash it off with cold water.
