7 Dry Hair Treatment Masks Hiding in Your Kitchen

Dry hair troubles? A quick poke around in the kitchen cabinets and the pantry will uncover all the ingredients you need to whip up a hair mask.

Single-ingredient hair masks are great, but they can often leave your hair desiring a little bit more nourishment and care. Pair these ingredients together to create treatment packs that will address all your dry hair woes.

Egg White and Water
This hair pack is as simple as it gets, but the results are amazing! Take 2 eggs and separate the whites from the yolks. Add 3 tablespoons of water to the egg whites and whisk until the mixture is fluffy. Apply to your hair and leave in for 30 minutes. Rinse off the mask with cold* water.

Avocado and Coconut Milk
Take 1 ripe avocado and mash it well, ensuring that there are no lumps. Add half a cup of coconut milk to the mashed avocado and mix until it’s a smooth paste. Apply the paste to your hair and let it rest for 45 minutes. Rinse out the paste with lukewarm water and follow up with a mild shampoo.

Honey and Vegetable Oil
Mix 2 tablespoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil into a sticky paste. Apply thr paste to your hair and cover with a plastic shower cap. After 15 minutes, shampoo your hair to remove the paste, leaving your hair super-conditioned.

Egg, Honey and Yogurt
Whisk 2 eggs in a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of honey and 2 tablespoons of yogurt to the beaten eggs. Whisk away until the resultant mixture is smooth and creamy. Apply the mixture to your hair and leave it in for at least 20 minutes before rinsing it out with cold* water.

Rice Milk and Honey
Add 2 teaspoons of honey to a cup of rice milk and mix thoroughly in a bowl. Once the mixture has uniform consistency, apply it to your hair. Let the mask sit for 15 minutes and then rinse it away with lukewarm water.

Amla Powder and Lime Juice
Take 2 tablespoons of amla (Indian gooseberry) powder and add 2 tablespoons of lime juice. Mix until the paste is consistent, with no lumps. Apply the paste to you hair by starting from the roots and working your way down to the tips. Leave in for 10 minutes and then wash with cold or lukewarm water.

Avocado and Banana
Mash 1 ripe avocado and 1 ripe banana in a bowl. Ensure that there are no lumps before applying the mash to your hair. Let the mixture sit in your hair for 30 minutes before rinsing it out with cool water.
*Note: Always use cold water when removing a hair mask containing eggs. Using warm/hot water may end up “cooking” the egg.
