“I bought the magazine at 11 a.m. and within 20 minutes of dedicated reading, I had decided to get rid of my long locks and have now got cool, spiky hair, just like Yuvraj Singh on the WWW page.”

Celebrities love updos; BAISHALI CHATTERJEE spots some at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

It’s gettin’ hot in here — and how! Does that mean we forget being stylish? Of course not! The ever-popular and elegant updo is hugely useful in the summer heat, especially in a tropical country such as ours. Take inspiration from these A-list celebrities who flaunted their ’dos at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Eva Longoria
This is a soft, unstructured updo, where the hair has been loosely pulled back and gathered at the nape. The front is kept clean, though it looks like the crown area was backcombed slightly to give the ‘do some height.

hair says While Eva’s long, white, off-shoulder dress completes her classy look (enhanced by her nude, glowing make-up), we think she could have added a pretty hair clip or accessory to add some sparkle.
Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan
Ash goes dramatic with her bouffant, stealing the show. This look is all about backcombing. She adds glamour to the ’do with tonged extensions that flow down her back.

hair says Although the dress is beautiful, we notice a striking resemblance between Ash and the Little Mermaid. Perhaps she could have ruffled the loose hair at the back a little more to add volume and visibility.
Jennifer Lopez
Pulling her hair tightly back, J Lo creates a huge updo high up on her head. There are several ways to create this look, such as tying a high ponytail and wrapping the hair around it. However, going by the size of this ’do, our guess is that J Lo used a hair donut and covered it well.

hair says A beautiful dress, but the single tone is a bit dull. Also, although extremely stylish, we think her forehead is looking a tad big with all the hair pulled tightly back. Maybe a few tendrils framing her face would soften the look.

Verdict These celebs look stunning, but they may just be caught by the fashion police! According to Chris Williams of RUSH, “Updos will be worn looser, with soft tendrils around the face.” Also, this season is big on pretty hair clips and accessories. Sadly, all three ladies do not score on either of these points.
