Flaunt an enviable glow this monsoon with well-cared for skin. We share tips to help you achieve this.
The soft pitter-patter of the rain drops, a hot steaming cup of coffee, and your favourite TV show to keep you company—this makes monsoon sound like a happy dream, right? But all this changes the minute you have to step out on a rainy day—wading through the water, struggling to keep muck at bay and dealing with frizzy locks and washed-off make-up…not so pleasant now, right?
While some aspects of the monsoon months are beyond our control, there is one place where we can take charge and see results—in skincare! This season, enjoy healthy, radiant and rain-ready skin by taking care of just a few basics. Read on to know more…
Keep those pores clean—exfoliate.
Humid conditions can lead to excessive oiliness on the face, leading to clogged pores and eventually, acne. Prevent this by religiously scrubbing your skin with a good exfoliator two-three times a week. Use a mild scrub with nonabrasive granules which are gentle on the skin, yet effective.
Cleanse—not just the face but the entire body.
Long walks in the monsoon showers may feel refreshingly great, but they’re not too great for your skin. Exposure to acidic rain water for very long may lead to fungal infections, so head straight for a shower in case you get drenched in the rain. Remember to avoid using extremely hot water in the shower, as this can dehydrate your skin and cause more harm than good.
Use ingredients that soothe your skin and take care of oiliness.
Tea tree oil, Fuller’s Earth, neem, etc. are great to soothe the skin and ensure that acne doesn’t bother you. Salicylic and hyaluronic acids are also effective in keeping your skin healthy so look out for care products with these ingredients.
SPF is STILL a must.
The sun may not be shinning in all its glory but it can still cause tons of damage to your skin. Don’t skip wearing your sunscreen through these gloomy, cloudy days—pick a lightweight, waterproof one before you step out.
Two words: lightweight and waterproof.
Avoid wearing too much make-up as the weather can turn it cakey in no time. It’s a no-brainer to switch to waterproof and lightweight formulas; try tinted moisturisers, cheek tints and coats of waterproof mascara to give you a radiant, dewy look.
Raid your kitchen and whip up homemade packs.
Make full use of the fresh fruits and veggies you get this season and put them not just in your belly but on your face too! Pick and mix ingredients as per your skin concerns and combat them in a totally natural and effective manner, right at home.
Don’t forget your feet.
As you wade through water ever so frequently, your feet are the most prone to fungal infections and irritation. Wear open footwear to let your feet breathe. Go in for regular pedicures every month to keep your feet squeaky clean, pampered and away from any infections!
