Guys, It’s Time You Gave The Samurai Bun a Shot

Gone are the days when man buns were considered objects of ridicule. In 2018, we’re going to see a lot more of them as men decide to grow their hair longer—which is great because so many guys do actually have great hair, and wearing it short is an injustice to what nature has given. Also, men are discovering newer ways to wear their buns, including taking a page out of the history books with the utilitarian yet stylish Samurai Bun.

Modern day samurai buns are a contemporary take on the chonmage, a popular hairstyle in the Japanese Edo period and with samurais. In fact, the chonmage was considered a status symbol and not everyone got to wear it.

The modern version does away with the shaved pate, but keeps the folded topknot. Some prefer to have the folded knot lower down the back, especially if they have long hair. Though around for some time, this new version of the samurai bun first became popular thanks to Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovich wearing one during his PSG days.
