Take a leaf out of your favourite celeb’s book as you enjoy the wedding season ever-so-glamorously. Isha Gakhar helps you get started as she points out head-turning hair trends that you must try.

It’s that time of the year again when we are ready to rock and roll, courtesy the glamorous weddings lined up for the next few months. Be it indulging in sangeet or off to a mehendi, you need to keep your hair game on point! If you’re looking for the next uber-chic thing in hair trends, this is a definitive guide for you, with a stamp of approval from the industry pros. Take a look at the season’s most-coveted hairstyles…

Onscreen Exuberance

This wedding season, get your own ‘wow’ moment by taking cues from Anushka Sharma’s bewitching avatar in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Be it her mane, make-up or sartorial choices, everything was perfect. Even during the movie promotions, Anushka managed to deliver a host of scintillating styles. From centre-parted sleek hair to a messy chignon, she has donned it all.

Fashion goddess Sonam Kapoor’s wispy ‘do at the Cannes 2017 red carpet is a style to vie for. Paired with dewy make-up, the look is a classic reference to amp up your wedding reception game.

Also noteworthy are the hairstyles of Deepika Padukone—the Bajirao Mastani actress has always stunned us with her exemplary hair choices. Her braided crown updo in particular gives us major festive goals. And now we have her Rani Padmini styling to look forward to as well.

If poker-straight hair is your new crush, slay it like Priyanka Chopra. The Quantico star has worn perfectly-polished hair at numerous domestic and international events, including this year’s Golden Globes and Oscars.

Short Hair, Don’t Care

This season is committed to short, sassy cuts, as observed on ramps and red carpets around the world. Fashion’s prime ambassadors are taking the plunge too. Motivating us are divas like Scarlett Johansson, Diane Kruger, Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, Natalie Portman, Kangana Ranaut, Anushka Sharma and Jacqueline Fernandez. We are in awe of Esha Gupta and Nargis Fakhri’s version of the short, shaggy cut. The style can be an immaculate game-changer, provided your mane gets a makeover from a professional.

Rehashing the season’s look, Anisha Fernandes Tavares, Senior Stylist and Make-up Artist at Nalini of Nalini & Yasmin Salon, suggests a shorter mane. One can further enhance the styling by adding some pop of colour. Anisha says, “Most Indian women tend to wear their hair long. However, I would suggest that it’s time to come out of your comfort zone and take it up to the shoulders or get down to medium lengths. Colours can take the haircut to a whole new level; go for techniques like colour contouring, placements, balayage and so on.”

In agreement is Deepak Jalhan, Creative Director & Educator, LOOKS Salon, who says, “This wedding season, sharp and chic cuts are going to be the favourites! As for styling, there’s a medley to opt from—low buns or loose curls, textured hair and fishtail braids are easy to wear.” He recommends using heat-protectant products while styling your hair, to keep dryness and frizz at bay. “Try Paul Mitchell Heat Seal, L’Oréal Professionnel Liss Ultime Heat Protectant, or Schwarzkopf Gliss Total Hair Repair Heat Protection Spray,” adds Deepak.

A-List Inspiration

The Winter-Festive edition of Lakmé Fashion Week this year gave us a plethora of incredible looks that can effortlessly make their way into your lookbook. For designer Amit Aggarwal’s runway look, models wore a mesmerising messy chignon, which could be your best bet at weddings. Vivacious and pretty, Radhika Apte’s voluminous curls for Sailesh Singhania’s show is worth trying out too.

In terms of styling, Anisha shares, “It can be over-the-top bouncy, soft waves, old world, finger-waves, etc.  Women can braid their hair; create soft messy buns, ponytails and so much more. Don’t necessarily keep it simple—try updos with braids, or add some detailing to it.”

So there you have it, from the hair experts themselves. Now get ready to put all these tips into action! Remember the ‘less is more’ mantra, be it products or styling experiments. We don’t want you getting confused with all the new trends emerging—narrow down your options to a few hairdos that appeal to you, as well as match your needs and personality.

Keep in mind the cold weather during the season—maintenance becomes a key concern in this scenario. Use products that are compatible with your hair type and texture. And finally, don’t forget to let your hair down and make the best of the celebrations.
