Hair extensions are the latest rage on the red carpet and also next door. Didn’t know that? From being a faux hair enhancer for super models and Hollywood celebs to being a must-have in a stylist’s kitty, hair extensions have definitely come a long way. They add bounce to your curls, spice up your hair colour and can even boost your chignon. Choose whichever style you fancy and you can have it with extensions. The best part is that now, you can either opt for synthetic extensions or use ones that are made of natural hair, which are easier to match with your hair colour. And, guess what? You can style your locks with styling tools and products to your heart’s desire, without running the risk of damaging them.

Take your pick
Here’s a look at the options you can choose from today…
Fill-in application
These extensions are fashioned out of 100% human hair, which are professionally connected to the natural hair with a bond. An absolute must-have when you are looking to enhance the volume, length and colour of your natural tresses.
DoubleHair extensions
If you have been dying to get some bounce back into your locks, go for Balmain Hair DoubleHair extensions. You can even camouflage a haircut gone wrong with this life-saver. These are also ideal when you want long, cascading tresses.
Clip-tape extensions
A backstage secret, these are human hair pieces, which are attached (taped or clipped in) to natural hair for fab results.
Clip-in extensions
Want to revamp your look? How about a pretty fringe or maybe a strand of über-chic purple highlights? Do it all yourself (yes, you heard us right) with these clip-in applications. Easy to use, they will make your dream an absolute reality.
Sapna Bhavnani of mad O wat makes life easier for you with these pointers for hair extensions:
- While washing your hair, always stand in the shower with your head in an upright position.
- During the wash do not rub the hair vigorously. Instead, massage the scalp gently with your finger tips.
- Wash your hair only once or twice a week.
- Apply conditioner to the extensions only. Do not apply it to the braids at the scalp, as this could cause them to loosen and slip out.
- If your extensions get tangled, the best way to tackle it is to mix water with conditioner and spray it on your hair.
- While combing, always start at the ends and work your way up to the roots.
- After pinch braids have been in for a month, start pulling them apart to avoid matting and tangling.
- Going to bed with wet hair is an absolute no-no!
- Wear your hair in a loose braid or pull it into a loose ponytail on top of your head.
- Always make sure your hair is completely dry when wearing a ponytail, braids or a bun.
