We get three celebrated make-up experts—Bianca Louzado, Urmi Kaur Wachher, and Chetan Karkhanis—to talk trends for the new year.
TRENDS THAT WILL BLOW UP
The cat eye with a round tip at the edge, paired with nude or glossy lips will be a big trend. Also, eyeliners are going to be all about having fun—in a graphic and futuristic space.
I feel shiny foundation for a dewy finish on the skin will be huge in 2018. Yellow gold highlighter on the cheekbones and inner corners of the eyes will also be shining bright. There will be colour magic with graphic liners in vibrant colours (teal, green); glitter eyeliners (metallic); peachy fresh skin, bold statement lips and highlighted high-shine effect on face will grab all the attention.
2018 will be ruled by ultra-highlighters, and creamy, hydrating lipsticks will make a comeback in fun colours. Also, rounded flick eyeliners will be a trend to watch out for this year.
CARRY FROM ’17 TO ’18
Contouring and strobing are a huge rage, and they are here to stay for 2018.
The beauty industry thrives on fresh, new trends, but a few things never change. And one of these is dewy, fresh and glowing skin that will always be much loved. Also, highlighting the defining facial features will be one of the hottest trends in upcoming months. Pink eye make-up will be seen again, along with fresh lips.
The craze for metallic eyelids will be carried over to 2018, but with a new generation of highlighters.
Technology 2018: CHETAN says, “We are going to see the use of stones, gems and sequins in make-up. Although these aren’t traditionally make-up products, they’re definitely a trend to watch out for. Also, iridescent highlighters—a step beyond regular and metallic highlighters—and portable airbrushes may be popular in 2018.”
COLOURS OF 2018
Brick, dull golds, and browns will be the most favoured colours.
Bianca’s Special Tip: Smudge a brown pencil liner above the eyelid, close to the lash line as well as on the lower lash line, and then add brick-coloured shadow on top of the brown liners before smudging it again.
Metallic colours like silver, gold, and rose gold will be big this year.
Gold is most certainly going to get its shine back in 2018.
TRENDS TO KILL
Cut-crease eye make-up and Instagram brows have to go—they are way too defined and unnatural.
I would say that loading up skin with products is a definite ‘no’.
Urmi’s Special Tip: Use good skincare products and face masks; prep your skin well and use the right amount of foundation. Healthy looking skin is the best make-up one can wear.
Overuse of highlighters. As these will be a huge trend, I would encourage make-up enthusiasts to use them carefully— if used incorrectly, it can look disastrous.
Technology 2018: BIANCA says, “Look out for magnetic false lashes and battery-operated brushes. These brushes move in a circular motion to blend foundation seamlessly, thereby giving the canvas an airbrushed look.”
