Beauty How To Makeup Makeup

It’s The Time to Prime

The wait is over, it’s officially time to make primer a part of your makeup routine. Treat this article as your handy guide to using a primer.

Did we just hear ‘what’s a primer’? Well, it’s primary tool in preparatory makeup. And for all those who think ‘why primer’, it helps one create a perfect canvas – an even skin tone – before applying foundation.

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif was recently heard saying, “Every girl wants a perfect canvas for her makeup. A primer done right is the first step to a flawless and radiant complexion. A great primer that can colour correct and camouflage all blemishes means fewer layers of makeup and fresh, natural-looking skin. It’s so simple to use, even if you are on the go. And what’s more, it’s lightweight and doesn’t leave any streaks. I love the gentle ingredients that keep my skin hydrated every time I use it.”

A key makeup tool

Beauty brands have been putting out makeup primers for what feels like forever. It remains one of the most mysterious yet important base products in the entire makeup procedure. Basically, a primer is a preparatory product that’s applied after your skincare to create an ideal canvas to hold onto whatever makeup comes afterward. So basically, it smoothens skin, keeps makeup in place, blurs pores to near invisibility, brightens, fades fine lines and wrinkles, targets acne and add tons of moisture. Some can even give the skin a temporary face-lift, and all this without feeling heavy.

 How to use a primer?

Now let’s come to the main question on our mind. How to use a primer? Unlike other makeup products, primers are almost always applied after your last skincare step and before starting your actual makeup.

Follow this 3-step guide to using a primer:

STEP 1: Primer works best on clean, freshly moisturised skin (although one should wait for at least five minutes for the moisturiser to sink in before applying primer.)

STEP 2: Use only a thin layer of primer (usually a pea-size blob for your entire face) and dab it across your face using your fingers, as they say it’s the best and easiest way to blend everything and get a seamless finish.

STEP 3: Wait a full 60 seconds for your primer to ‘set’ before slathering on your concealer and foundation.
