Masking It!

It’s always nice to feel a little pampered.

But the frequent spa visits can be expensive and the store bought products have too many ingredients and chemicals that could cause harm to our skin. Instead, using organic, homemade masks could benefit both our skin and wallet!

But with hundreds of recipes available, choosing the one that suits your skin type – whether oily, sensitive, dry, combination, dull, mature or normal – might be confusing. Here’s our roundup of 7 easy-to-follow face mask recipes,

 

For Dry Skin – Moisturizing Oatmeal Mask

Dry skin can sometimes be very irritating and itchy! No to mention the peeled skin that only causes further hassle and agitation. Soothe your dry skin with this oatmeal and fennel face mask.

Ingredients:

1tbsp fennel seeds

½ cup boiling water

1tbsp ground oatmeal

1tbsp raw organic (optional) honey

 

Directions:

Make a tea with 1 tbsp fennel seeds and ½ cup boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes, then strain. Allow the mix to cool. While cooling, grind 1 tbsp oatmeal in a blender. Combine the room temperature tea with ground oatmeal. Mix in 1 tbsp raw organic honey. Apply to face and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and follow with a cool rinse.

Repeat the same twice a week for better results.

 

 

For Oily Skin – Lifting Lemon Mask

People with oily skin tend to look for ailments that reduce the excess oil without drying up their skin. Something that deep cleans the pores, ideally. Great for oily or acne prone skin, the lifting lemon mask helps fade acne scars and age spots. It also creates a firming effect for a DIY face lift!

Ingredients:

2 tbsp plain yogurt

1tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice

 

Directions:

Mix 2 tbsp plain yogurt with 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice. Apply to a clean face and neck. Leave to dry for 20-30 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and follow it with a cool rinse to close the pores. You can do this 2-3 times a week, or whenever you feel in need of a little lift.

Hint: You can keep the face mask longer for more face-lifting effects!

 

 

For Combination Skin – Yogurt and Egg White Mask

Can you imagine having both dry and oily skin together! As disgruntling as it sounds combination skin are the most difficult to manage. This is because with combination skin, it may be hard to choose beauty products that your facial skin is compatible with, being both oil and dry. Choosing the right natural ingredients is essential in order to get the skin back to its original luster.

A simple solution to this skin type woe is the yogurt and egg white face mask. In this face mask, you only need two ingredients, i.e., probiotic yogurt and egg white. While the egg white is good for tightening large pores and controlling oil production, yogurt is a super food which fights acne, controls oil and hydrates dry skin.

Ingredients:

1 tbsp yogurt

1 egg white

 

Directions:

Combine the ingredients thoroughly in a small mixing bowl. Slather the mixture onto your face, avoiding the eye and mouth area. Sit for 10 to 15 minutes. When the face mask has completely dried up, rinse off with warm water first and then cold water to cool off pores. Pat dry.

 

 

For Sensitive/ Problem Skin – Cocoa and Coffee Mask

If you suffer from problem/sensitive skin, opt for a mask that will draw out your skin imperfections. Using one, like the cocoa and coffee mask will remove blackheads, and even whiteheads to some extent, reduce puffiness and redness and brighten up your dull skin.

 

Ingredients:

4 tbsps of finely ground coffee.

4 tbsps cocoa powder

1 tbsp sugar

8 tbsps milk product – it can be milk, cream, yogurt, coconut or almond milk.

2 tbsps of honey (for dry skin) or lemon juice (for oily skin)

 

Directions:

Mix 4 tbsps of coffee and cocoa in a cup. Add the milk product and mix until soft. Add honey (or lemon juice) and mix well. Apply it on your face and then allow the mask to dry. After that wash it off properly.

 

 

For Dull Skin – Papaya Mask

If you have dull skin, chances are you looking for something to lighten things up. To do so, we recommend the papaya mask.

Ingredients:

½ ripe papaya (peeled and sliced properly)

½ tsp honey

1 tsp lemon juice

 

Directions:

Blend the mixture well and then cover your entire face with the mask, just leaving your eyes. Leave it for 20 minutes and then remove gently with a cotton ball or rinse it off well with water.

 

 

For Mature Skin – Pumpkin Mask

If you have mature skin, a firming mask is the one for you. Using one, like a pumpkin mask will revive the skin and diminish inflammation. In fact, the Pumpkin pulp consists of active antioxidants, anti-ageing, and fruit acids that stimulate skin rejuvenation.

Ingredients:

A half cup of fresh pumpkin pulp

2 eggs

2 tsps almond milk (for dry or combination skin)

1 tsp of honey (for dry skin)

2 tsps of apple cider vinegar or cranberry juice (for oily skin)

 

Directions:

Take the pulp of the pumpkin puree with a mixer. Then add the eggs. If you have dry skin, then you can add almond milk and honey. Mix them well. Apply the mask on the skin and leave it for 15-20 minutes. Wash with cool water and apply moisturizer cream.

 

 

For Normal Skin – Strawberry Scrub

If you have normal skin, consider yourself lucky, because the options available for you, are endless. Thus, while you can use any kind of mask that you want, we would like to share our personal favorite the Strawberry Scrub.

Ingredients:

2 large strawberries (Preferably organic)

2 tbsp finely ground oats or a cup of sour cream

 

Directions: 

 Mash the strawberries and mix with the finely ground oats or the cup of sour cream. Mix them well and apply gently with a soft cotton ball. Leave it for 15-20 minutes and rinse well with water.

Hint: The mix can last for about 2 weeks, if stored in the refrigerator.
