“I bought the magazine at 11 a.m. and within 20 minutes of dedicated reading, I had decided to get rid of my long locks and have now got cool, spiky hair, just like Yuvraj Singh on the WWW page.”

Distraught in Delhi? Head for Vedic Spa Mantra for a revivifying time, suggests PALLIKA DAS.
What do you need when you have miles to go before you sleep? Yes, a spa experience to de-stress your jaded nerves. If you are washed out (just like me!) or not, you need to try out the body massages offered by the Vedic Spa Mantra — simply because they are too good to resist. The spa offers a range of services from body massages to wraps and scrubs.

Powered by Baidyanath Ayurveda, the spa is an integration of the traditional and modern therapies. The facility is cocooned in a three-storey building in the heart of the busiest market in New Delhi (for all those shopaholics, yes, it’s Lajpat Nagar).

Unlike other spas, the masseurs here are actually from the country where the massage originated. For instance, my masseuse Putri hailed from Bali, where she had learned the art in school. And I soon realised that her delicate porcelain face belied her fantastic strength.

I was recommended the Indonesian Urut Massage for my fatigued condition by the extremely warm spa manager.

Throughout the hour-long kneading and masterful strokes, her hands worked my body with aromatic oils in varying ways. I was not aware of so many pain points building up in my muscles until then. But again, it seemed as if the emergence of the pain was simultaneous with its disappearance. All this while, Putri kept on checking if the pressure was comfortable for me. At one point, the pressure and smoothness made me believe she was using stones. Giggling, she replied that it was just her elbows. So, you know, you are getting the real deal here. The best part was the head massage, which made me snap out of my reverie. The delightful sauna was all that was needed to wash away the negative energy and I was all set to meet the world again.
