Salon Pampering For Your Mom

Your mom deserves to be pampered big time on Mother’s Day. Wondering how to manage this during the lockdown? Well, we have got you fully covered. Here’s how you can give her a day of salon pampering and relaxation at home, and show her how much you truly love her!

Give your mom a transformation, a new look that makes her feel refreshed. However, before you tear open that hair colour box, here some pointers shared by Shilpa Joshi Halder, Senior Scientist Managing Development of Hair Color and Care, South Asia, L’Oréal Paris. “Start by picking the right shade of hair colour for her. Get a bowl and a brush, the kind that salon colourists use to mix and paint on dye. Begin by applying the dye at the roots, since they need the most colour. Then comb it through the rest of the hair to distribute it evenly. Work in 4-6 sections like salon pros do (use hair clips as you go) to ensure full coverage. Let it stay for 30-40 minutes, then all she needs to do is shampoo and condition her hair.”

It’s time to make some wax at home – chocolate, fruit or honey-flavoured, whichever is her favourite. Melt 2 cups granulated sugar, ¼ cup lemon juice, 2 tbsp water and 1 tsp salt. Add 10-20 grams of organic cocoa powder/pure fruit juice/honey for the respective flavoured wax. Heat all ingredients in a pot over medium-high flame. Once it begins to boil, stir the mixture to combine the ingredients. Allow the mixture to cook until it attains a caramelised colour (like honey). Once fully cooked, transfer it to a container and allow to cool. Don’t forget to sprinkle some talcum powder on the area before you begin the waxing process. After it’s done, do apply some moisturiser to keep her skin supple.

Who doesn’t love a facial? Start with applying a cleanser, then wipe her face with a wet towel. After cleansing, exfoliate and slough off the top layer of skin cells and excess oils to ensure that the ingredients get the most out of the other steps. Start with one tsp nutmeg in a bowl, then add a tbsp. of milk and massage gently on her skin and neck. Next, mask her face with three tbsp. of orange juice and add ¼ cup of honey, mix and apply it on her face. However, if you do not have these ingredients at home or are unsure of making a mask then you use a sheet mask that’s available at any store. Lastly, apply a few drops of revitalizing cream which penetrates up to 10 skin layers and gives her the perfect glow.

Try a home manicure for your mom. Before you start, make sure her nails are polish free. Soak her hands in polish remover for few seconds. Then, it’s time to exfoliate! We all love an easy at-home fix, right? Mix one tbsp. sugar with one tbsp. of baby oil gel and gently scrub away the dead, dry cells. Rinse and pat dry. Soften the cuticles by rubbing almond oil on them. Go ahead and push them back with an orangewood stick to get a nice shape. Apply a base coat to smooth any ridges and create an even surface for her favorite colour. Paint on two thin layers of her favourite colour, allowing it to dry completely between each coat. Let her have a relaxing day and look as pretty as she always should.

Begin with a polish removal. To remove every last bit of colour, soak a cotton pad in nail polish remover and hold it on each nail for a few seconds to allow the paint to break down before you start swiping. Fill up your bath tub or a basin tub with warm water and add a liberal scoop of skin-soothing bath salts. Let her feet stay soaked for a few minutes before moving on to filing, shaping and smoothing the nails. The sides of her toes would love a good scrub. For this, use a pumice stone or foot file to gently smooth the skin. Take one foot at a time out of the tub and dry it off with a towel. With a foot cream or body lotion, massage her toes, feet and calves. Use an orange stick to push back the cuticles. Finish off by applying a thin layer of base coat on each nail. This will make her feel refreshed and fabulous.
