Stay Frizz Free!

For many frizzy hair is a daily battle. For others it’s just an occasional problem. However, in either case it is frustrating, not to mention a task, to control that all frizz. Especially, for those who want long and shiny hair!

No matter how much effort you put in to make your hair look perfect, you very well know that in just a few minutes all that effort will be wasted! All you can see is a bird’s nest where your hair used to be. Honestly, it’s not an uncommon place to be in, as a whole lot of us (including me) have been there.

Though, many of us brush it off by blaming it on the texture of our hair, the case might not be the same. So what causes frizzy hair? Allow us to explain.

What Causes Frizzy hair?

Lack of moisture. Just like your body, your hair too requires constant water intake. But if it’s hydration requirements are not met, the outermost layer of each strand (called as the cuticle) rises to let the moisture from the air in. And if this continues, the excess moisture from the atmosphere will cause the hair to swell up and create a frizzy effect that you’re familiar with seeing.

How to Tame it?

Frizz is a cry for constant nourishment and moisture. So first you need to ensure that you drink enough water. Also, you need to ensure that you eat right and well, and not just all junk. Once you have these two things down, you also need to treat your hair with the right amount of oiling and some good homemade hair masks.

Home Remedies for Frizzy Hair:

1. Almond Oil and Egg

This combination is considered to be one of the best remedies for frizzy hair. As, while the almond oil acts as a natural hair emollient and conditioner, the egg repairs the damaged hair shaft with its high protein content. Here’s how you can make it.

Frizzy Hair Hacks:

Besides using the above-mentioned ways to reduce frizzy hair, one should also adopt some of the following hacks that help control frizz in the first place.

1. Get a good haircut

A good haircut is one of the best ways to control frizzy hair. You should get your curls trimmed once in every two months to remove any split-ends. Also, cutting off the damaged hair will make your hair look more lustrous and healthy.

2. Use a sulfate-free, glycerin-packed shampoo

Generally, shampoos that contain sulfates strip and dehydrate your strands, which is not what you want in your hair. Thus, only use shampoos that have glycerin high up in the ingredient list, as glycerin helps tame frizzy hair by penetrating the hair shaft and hydrating it from inside out.

3. Condition your hair well

Also ensure that you condition your hair well after every hair wash you take. Indeed, conditioning your hair well will help retain moisture and keep your hair shaft hydrated. Also, only use conditioners that contain glycerin as well as other hydrating ingredients (like coconut oil and shea butter), in them.

4. Use a hydrating hair mask

Doing a special treatment at least once a week, will help fill up any holes in your hair shaft, that could soak up outside moisture and cause frizz. You could use any hair mask, based on what ingredients suit your hair type.

5. Brush your hair regularly

Hanging your head upside down and brushing your hair with a boar bristle brush, regularly, helps distribute the oils from your scalp onto the rest of the hair, keeping it hydrated and healthy.

6. Anti-frizz hair products

Using a leave-in conditioner or a serum could help control frizzy hair. There are several anti-frizz hair products in the market, available for every hair type.
