It’s time to get your glow on point! ARUNA MUKERJEE shares the perfect tips for a soft, glowing summer look.
The summer heat is gradually catching up and it’s time to make the most out of nature’s spotlight. A dewy look is the way to go as it not only gives your skin a fresh, young look but it also complements those flowy summer dresses and comfy
Acing dewy skin
Applying a foundation may sound absolutely unacceptable under the sweltering heat but we’re here to say that it’s completely okay! To nail the dewy skin look this summer, all you have to do is recognise your skin type and powder strategically. If you’re looking for a dewy foundation that gives the perfect sheer, skin-like finish MAC Face & Body foundation is your best bet.
When one talks about lit-from-within skin, skipping the topic of highlighters is a cardinal sin! If you have a more metallic look on your mind make sure to reach for highlighters that are packed with pigment. And, if a soft candle lit iridescence is what you’re looking for, then the world is your oyster!
For this, try strobing, the counterpart of contouring, that focuses more on capturing light than creating shadows. The high points of the face, i.e., the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, the Cupid’s bow and above the arch of the eyebrow are emphasized through various highlighting techniques. Finding the right shade of highlighter is absolutely essential when it comes to strobing. The key to achieving this is to get a shade that either blends into your skin tone or one that is a shade lighter than your skin colour. One should always avoid mixing liquid highlighter with the foundation, especially if you have oily skin. Formula wise, a powder highlighter is the safest option for the summer but if you wish to amp things up, layering a powder formula over it is fail-proof. Selective highlighting lasts longer and gives you more control over the product.
An all time favorite of make-up artists is the MAC Strobe Cream. But, if you’re on a budget, Chambor has a beautiful Champagne coloured liquid highlighter in its collection. For powder highlighters that give you that subtle glow from within, Makeup Revolution has a highlighting palette which is a pretty close dupe of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders.
Moving along to the cheeks, it would be safer to use a matte blush when using a highlighter. However, if you’re in a rush a shimmery blush will save you the time as well as the effort. For those looking for a peaches and cream complexion, MAC’s Melba blush makes the perfect matte companion. L’Oréal Paris, on the other the other hand, has a beautiful collection of Lumi blushes to suit every skin tone. Benefit makes phenomenally good cheeks tints which are budge proof and well worth their price.
Perfecting the summer pout
Lip glosses are particularly good for the summer simply because they are easier to re-apply and keep your lips moisturised. Fruity, sheer shades go well with the season and are easy to get your hands on. Lip balms can also work just as well. An added dose of SPF in them makes things even sweeter! Nyx butter lip gloss in Peach Cobbler is something that every peach lover will drool over. Nivea has an offering of gorgeous lip balms that out perform many lip glosses while giving you a decent amount of pigment.
