Salt is well known as a dietary additive used to enhance taste. Now, you can breathe it in for better health! Sitting back in a room full of this ‘wonder dust’ at the first-of-its-kind salt spa, Salt Escape, I find out how this therapy works its magic.
Living in a heavily-polluted city has left most of us only dreaming about clean air. Salt Escape, a unique solution to better well-being is the key. Nothing like your run-of-the-mill spa, Salt Escape offers a salt therapy service, also known as ‘halotherapy’. This has a history of originating from Poland, where it was first discovered as a beneficial process in the 19th century. All you have to do is sit comfortably in your own private lounge chair and breathe in the salt aerosol blown into the room. There’s even salt plastered on the walls and loose salt sprinkled all over the floor that creates a dreamy all-white ambience.
This ‘salty’ setup is known to relieve patients, dealing with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), bronchitis, rhinitis, sinusitis among many other ailments, of their conditions. Having asthma myself, just one session helped me breathe easy for a week. Not waking up every morning with a sneeze was an added bonus.
Would I visit again? Most definitely. After all, anyone would take up the chance to live and breathe better.
Things that I loved:
1. The minimalistic feel of the interiors gives a calming, relaxed feel to the entire experience.
2. Individual partitions for each seat in the room for that ‘do not disturb’ idea.
3. The familiar salty air is a nice reminder of the ocean and beach.
4. The special room for children, that by the way looks more fun than the adults’, with its TV, toys, games and books.
