The Met Gala 2019 has inspired us with the most sensational and over the top looks ever. Take a quick look at our favourite celebs who managed to stand out from the crowd.
The theme: The theme for this year was ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’. This camp isn’t the backpacking camp around the bonfire, but camp as in exaggerated fashion. Camp fashion can be humorous, ironic and simple or whatever it means to you. The theme was inspired by Susan Sontag’s seminal 1964 essays Notes on Camp.
A few looks that aced it for us:
Deepika Padukone wore a pink floor sweeping Zac Posen gown which has 408 embroidered pieces. These pieces took more than 160 hours to print and sew on. She styled her hair in a retro look with a metallic hairband. Her entire look was put together by her stylist Shahleena Nathani.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas wore a Dior gown from its Spring 2018 Collection. What stood about her look was her very dramatic hairstyle. Her look somewhat seemed like Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. It was curated by Mimi Cuttrell.
British model Cara Delevingue arrived at the Met Gala wearing a rainbow-striped playsuit from Dior’s haute couture Spring/Summer 2019 collection. She paired her look with matching platform heels, a Swarovski crystal cane and a zany headpiece containing bananas, eyeballs and wind up teeth. She even had a fried egg charm dangling from one side. However it was the model’s rainbow aesthetics that got the most love from social media, as fans took her ensemble as a nod towards the LGBT community.
Kylie Jenner looked fierce in a feather dress, which she wore while twinning with her sister. Fans drew quick comparisons, comparing the two to the duo sister from Scooby Doo. The dress was inspired by Versace. It’s interesting how Kylie went all lavender which includes her hair colour too.
Harry Styles, one of the co-hosts for the evening wore Gucci. Harry is the face of Gucci and it made complete sense for him to wear the label. He was seen wearing earrings and heels and a black sheer top that showed off his tattoos. His entire look had a pirate (Johnny Depp) vibe to it.
Katy Perry showed up at the Met Gala looking like an actual chandelier. She had three layers of candles surrounding her silver Moschino dress. It was a fully functional chandelier; this meant that she actually lit the red carpet! The internet compared her to the Beauty and the Beasts Lumiere.
Ezra Miller breaks all things conventional when it comes to the red carpet. The actor and singer took it to the next level when he got makeup artist Mimi Choi to carefully create multiple sets of eyes on his face giving a dizzy but fascinating look.
Billy Porter made an entrance with men carrying him inside. The star came dressed as an Egyptian goddess Isis- one of the most important Egyptian goddesses. Porters look also brought to mind the look of a rising phoenix. He accessorized his look with a chainmail headpiece, a golden crown and golden shoes. He also kept his makeup golden!
Jared Leto took the Camp theme to the next level! Where he carried his own head as an accessory. Don’t disregard the rest of the look; Leto wore a long red turtle neck dress with dangling diamonds falling over his shoulder. This alone would have been a master piece!
