Red, copper, honey, oh my! Hair shades can be deep and rich, or they can go soft and understated—but they all seem to come out quickly with just the first few washes. While the picky pigments require a little extra upkeep, these top tips will keep your colour-treated hair happy and vibrant

Don’t over wash
Everyday washing could eventually cause the colour of your hair to fade, so try to cut down on daily shampoos to help keep your colour looking fresh. Instead, opt for a dry shampoo in between washes, to absorb the grease and  keep your hair looking fresh.

Moisturise!
Dyed hair gets thirsty, so the key is to keep as much moisture in your locks as possible. Deep conditioning products, like masks, are great for helping hair fight back against the damage dyeing causes by keeping it nourished and adding moisture.

Protect your hair from the heat
Hair dryers and flat irons might be the must-have styling tools, but they can take a toll on colour-treated hair. Limit the damage they cause by using heat protectant products, to help guard against excessive heat and high temperatures. They’ll help your coloured hair stay moisturised and shiny, whatever your preferred heat styling tool is.

Cool down
It might be tempting to opt for a hot shower (especially during winters), but hot water helps to open up the hair cuticle, which can cause colour to run. To avoid colour fading, turn down the temperature and rinse your hair in lukewarm water.

Pool safety
Going swimming? Here’s a great tip: rinse your hair in the shower or one of those rinse-off stations before jumping into the pool. Wet hair absorbs less chlorine than dry hair, which can cause damage to coloured locks. Then rinse your tresses with clean water as soon as you are out of the pool to wash away any residue.

Wear a hat
The sun is another serious culprit in the case of dulling coloured hair. Extend the life of your shade (and protect yourself from the damaging UV rays) by covering up whenever you hit the great outdoors. Also, you can use a daily leave-in conditioner that has UV protectant properties. The MoroccanOil Protect and Prevent Spray, is one such product. Indeed! The spray acts as a leave-in conditioner and shield, helping to neutralize free radicals generated by pollution and environmental stressors while absorbing damaging UV rays. With each use, hair is infused with lustrous shine and colour that stays looking young and bright!  #Win.

Go for a colour-friendly shampoo
Like any chemical process, it’s true that dyeing damages hair – which means it requires extra care! Use a gentle shampoo and conditioner that is specifically designed for colour treated hair, to replenish moisture and prevent dulling. We recommend the MoroccanOil Colour ContInue Shampoo and Conditioner. A critical part of the at-home Moroccanoil Colour Complete offerings, Moroccanoil Colour Continue Shampoo & Conditioner features an exclusive COLOURLINK technology that repairs and restores the hair following colour services. This powerful duo works in synergy to provide intense nourishment and help improve hair’s quality, resulting in superior colour retention.

So, now you know how to take care of your coloured-treated hair. Here’s to locks that look as rich and vibrant as the day you came out of the salon!
