If you’re a nail polish addict and one of those who stock on the latest colours of nail polish or visit the salon so often that your manicurist knows you well, it’s high time you stop the practice and start taking good care of your nails. To ensure you give some tender love to your nails, we share some safety tips for your tips and toes.
Stop wearing it daily
Having your nails painted frequently certainly won’t do any good. It is necessary to leave your nails free for a while and not keep them covered with polish 24×7. Wearing nail polish all the time weakens your nail bed and causes nail discoloration.
Take a break
If you’re experiencing nail breaking, chipping and peeling, it is time to take a break yourself. Go polish-free for a minimum of 10 days. Keep your fingers soaked in warm water for 10-15 minutes daily to rehydrate your nails. While you will miss your painted tips, they will certainly thank you for leaving them free.
Say no to acetone
If you love changing your nail polish colour regularly, you would certainly be using a nail polish remover too. Traditional nail polish removers contained acetone that leads to the drying out of nails and causing them to peel. Opt for a nail polish remover without acetone and preferably one which contains vitamins to enrich your talons.
Avoid the peel
Peeling your nail polish is the worst habit you could indulge in. When you peel your polish, it’s not just the paint but the top layer of your nail too that you’re peeling, and that leads to further weakening of your nails. Prevent the chipping by investing in a good quality base coat.
Add a protective layer
Not wearing a base coat before applying a nail colour can have a damaging effect on nails or make them turn yellow. Use a base coat to protect your nails and make the polish last longer.
