What makes hair toning so important? Here’s all that you need to know about it.
Toning is essential. No, we don’t mean toning up your body. No, we don’t mean the quintessential cleansing-toning-moisturising routine either. We mean hair toning! Wondering what this is all about? Let us tell you all you need to know about it.
What is hair toning?
To put it most simply, a hair toner can literally help you in personalising your hair colour, enhancing your hair colour, and do so much more to it!
Sumit Israni, Creative Head and Owner, Geetanjali Salon, explains in detail. He says, “Hair toning is the process of neutralising the colour. There are times when the colour may not appear even. That is when the hair toner comes into play to give the hair a uniform shine. What’s exciting is that you can just mix a couple of toners and make some specially-desired or custom shade; a hue that is different and very unique in itself.” Talk about a hair colour that’s so you…and is just for you!
A hair toner also works to effectively remove the brassiness from the locks, such as the brassy yellows and orange tones on pre-lightened hair. It gives the hair more natural and visible tones. Using toners on pre-lightened hair helps in giving them a healthy and shiny appearance.
Available in cream and liquid forms, the toner is applied by stylists after the hair colour is rinsed out; it is applied to the hair and left on for about 20 minutes, following which the hair is rinsed, shampooed and conditioned.
Why is it so important?
Sumit notes, “Your hair gets decolourised because of a number of reasons; when you go to the beach, when you are under the sun, or because of pollution. A hair toner is that miracle product which gives the hair an even shine and smoothness. It coats the cuticle layer of the hair and gives it a shine, thus giving the hair a healthier look and feel.”
What’s more, the toner helps you play around with hues. Colourists use a hair toner to help warm up or cool down the hair colour. For instance, on blonde hair, a cooler toner will make the hair colour appear more silvery, and a warmer toner will make it more coppery.
Can you imagine how incomplete your hair colour may look if you skip this wonder product? The entire hair colouring process is incomplete without toning. It’s one of the most important steps of the entire act. Your final hair colour is brought alive, thanks to the toner. So, this is one ‘toning’ that you just can’t miss!
