For
years, I was oblivious to the fact that eyebrows can, almost literally,
shape one’s face. I didn’t think that those two sections
of hair above our eyes could lend so much character to one’s
look and serve the function of “non-verbal communication”,
as Sunil Bajaj, designer of beauty tools, says. I have to admit
that although most professionals advise against changing the shape
of your brow, I have, in the past, tried to do so…with results
that were not actually disastrous!
Here are some tips to keep in mind when working on your brows:-
• If you are a first-time plucker, it’s best to consult
a professional and have his / her expert hands do the initial deed.
Once you are comfortable with a pair of tweezers and know what the
feeling is like, give it a shot on your own.
• Some experts advocate the use of medicated cream or moisturiser
before tweezing, but I find that water does just fine. I generally
tweeze after a shower, so that the eyebrow hair is loosened slightly
and the plucking action doesn’t hurt as much as it otherwise
would.
• The best results are achieved when you tweeze in the direction
of the hair growth.
• Remember the adage ‘slow and steady wins the race’?
That certainly holds true in this case. Go slow on your eyebrows—this
is a delicate area you are working on, after all—and take
hair one bit at a time. It is better to pluck each strand little
by little than to pull out a whole bunch and then realise it’s
more than what you wanted to tweeze.
• Post-tweezing, it is essential to soothe the area with a
cream or gel. If you have a specific skin condition, you should
consult your dermatologist before tweezing and ask for advice on
what to use pre- and post-tweezing to ensure you get the best results.
