Vitamin E: The ‘Beauty’ Vitamin

Although you can find it in the supplement aisle, many companies now add  vitamin E to their beauty products. And for a good reason too!

Vitamin E is best known for its antioxidant properties, which help reduce free radical damage and protect the body’s cells; against the damaging UV rays. Besides, vitamin E is often used to promote smooth, hydrated skin. Also, it helps soothe burns and rashes, and smoothen out stretch marks; literally making them disappear from your skin.

In fact, early research also suggest that vitamin E could help improve overall scalp and hair health. Their antioxidant properties help reduce oxidative stress in the scalp, which in turn prevents hair loss. Besides. Vitamin E increases the blood flow, which promotes a healthy scalp and increases the hair follicle. It also balances the scalp oil production and adds shine to dull and frizzy hair.

But how could one incorporate vitamin E in their daily beauty regime?

Simple. You could either use the pill directly in your homemade remedies or the vitamin E oil that’s easily available in pharmacies and local drug stores. Also, you could consider certain beauty products that contain vitamin E as an essential ingredient.

One simple way of using vitamin E is to directly utilise its capsules. You can easily find these capsules in pharmacies or local drug stores. A better alternative to the vitamin E oil, this is the most natural way of using vitamin E.

Although some recommend consuming the pill directly, it’s better to use the oil that’s squeezed out from the capsule.

How do you extract the oil?

Easy. First, lay the required amount of capsules on a paper towel. Use a needle to poke a small hole in each of these capsules, and squeeze the oil into a small container until only the skin of the capsule is left (For those who are not comfortable with using a needle, could also use a pair a scissors to snip off the tip of the capsule and squeeze out the oil). Once done, you could use this oil in any of your homemade remedies for your skin or hair.

Here’s one such recipe for hair:

1 Vitamin E capsule

¼ cup hair oil (preferably coconut oil)

Pour out some hair oil into a bowl and heat it for about 5 minutes. Then extract the oil from the vitamin E capsule (process explained above) and mix it with the oil. Massage the mixture onto your hair, through your scalp and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Rinse well with water and your regular shampoo.

Vitamin E Oil

Most vitamin E oils are not in their purest form when purchased. Therefore, one should dilute them properly before any use. That said, vitamin E oils are also expensive and difficult to work with, i.e., they’re usually thick and oxidize quickly when exposed to air.

One could consider using beauty products that contain vitamin E as an essential ingredient. Below are some of our recommended vitamin E-based beauty products.
