Valentine’s is almost a hop and skip away and we’re sure all you girls are excited and prepping up for the perfect date. Step one is obviously picking the right outfit, but what about the rest? To get the perfect look, your crowning glory – your hairstyle – and your make up are as important as the rest of your ensemble.
Get going with this step-wise guide to great hair and makeup:
An evening look calls for dramatic makeup. Go for contoured face, smokey eyes, sensual lips and add a dash of shimmer to your demeanour and you’d look just wow!
Face: We cannot stress enough on the importance of choosing the right foundation for your face. Unless you are buying the same one, it is not advisable to pick your foundation online, without actually trying it out first. That said, make sure you apply it evenly on your face and neck.
Eyes: Since wearing a mask is the new norm, your eyes should be the centre point of your overall makeup. Go for a classic smokey-eyed look and if that is not your thing, you could opt for bronzed eyes, which includes shades of bronze, copper and light brown for eyes that pop. To complete the look, go for a dash of liquid eyeliner. If you’re feeling adventurous, try a bold look by replacing your current eyeliner with white or some other colour which you may fancy. Don’t forget to turn up the oomph factor with a glamourous wand of mascara. Albeit, make sure to use a fresh dip each time and clean out the excess to avoid clumps.
Cheeks: All those who follow make up tutorial videos on YouTube or Pinterest may be familiar with the art of contouring. Use the darkest shade on the contour palette right below the cheekbones in a diagonal manner going upwards. To compliment the look, pop in some highlighter at the zenith (the highest arch point) of your cheekbones. Also, whilst you’re at it, you could apply a little highlighter right below the center of the eyebrow and a hint at the tip of your nose. If you’re not a fan of contouring and like to keep things simple, you could opt for a simple blush for the cheeks.
Lips: If you prefer to go dramatic on the eyes, the thumb rule is to go easy on the lips. Nude lips or just a smatter of lip gloss is the new go- to, to pair with glamorously done-up eyes. To plump out thin lips, most make-up artists prefer to go for tones of cherry red or deep red such as Ruby Woo by M.A.C. which is an all-time favourite.
No matter what style you choose, make sure your hair is squeaky clean and smells good. Also do apply hair serum before you start styling it. Go for a messy bun for an evening look. If hair up-dos are not your thing, then you can style them in soft waves by leaving them loose and then let them do their trick.
For all you curl-girls out there, scrunching your curls and leaving them open is the best bet. Soft well-defined curls can frame your face well, lending a more feminine soft look to your persona.
If you are going for a post-work date, then perhaps a loose ponytail or a well pulled-back high pony with some loose strands to frame the face looks elegant. Whichever style you choose, do add some cute hair accessories to complete the look.
Golden tip: Remember, you should carry the dress and not let the dress carry you! Also no matter how stylish you dress or how well-groomed you look, the key to a perfect Valentine date is to be yourself and let your inner self glow.
